He is fine if I hold him while I vacuum, but he can't be put down with it on and he can't be nearby if it is on. I tried shutting my door while he was in his room, but he heard it and came outside my door and cried until I shut it off. The funny part about this whole thing is that he'll cry hard until I'm done, but once the vacuum is shut off, he instantly says "all done" in a normal voice like he wasn't just crying his head off, although you can tell it has a slight question to it, b/c he's not actually sure if I'm all done--just wishful thinking on his part.
In his defense, it isn't like I vacuum all that much b/c our only carpet is upstairs and we don't wear shoes up there, so it isn't like I vacuum nearly as much as if there were carpet on the main level, so he doesn't have as much exposure to become comfortable with it.
I have to be careful to make sure it is unplugged when not in use though b/c he will go and turn it on and it REALLY scares him if it actually turns on, which I don't want, b/c that won't help him overcome his fear! I thought about taking a video of him crying and then his "all done" comment when done...is that mean?! :)
On an unrelated note, one really cute thing that Blake does, is he takes my camera, holds it out and says "smile." So, him and I took a few together after he said that...only problem is he doesn't actually smile, although he was starting to catch on!
At least he's looking at the camera...:) |
Small smile |
There we go! Now to just get him to look...:) |
