Halloween 2014

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BLAKE!

He was so serious about trick-or-treating. I just love taking him--he loves going up to the houses and ringing the bells and taking candy. His first couple houses he was unsure what was going on, would look people in the eyes and linger as they talked to him. After a couple houses, he caught on that he got candy at every. house. No more lingering, no more eye contact, and no more uncertainty, he was on a mission. He would ring the doorbell, wouldn't look up, just had his eyes on the goal, head down. When he had secured his prize, he whisked around, muttered the mandatory "thank you" and was headed to the next house with a spring in his step as we discussed whether to take the sidewalk, cross the street, or cut across the lawn. He would eagerly participate in the conversation and was willing to take whatever route necessary, regardless of his cold hands.

Melt.my.heart. I don't know how many pictures I took of this monkey as he took off to get some candy.

Boldly approaching each house.

Is there anyone coming??
Leading the way

Mommy and he little lion. Sadie was fussy that night, until we got outside, then she was an angel. Amazing how much kids love the outdoors, regardless of the timperature!

Posing...don't ask my why I crouched...I did this in every picture. Maybe to get closer to Blake...??

Had to hold the candy in front of his face...

At least my crouch wasn't as bad in this picture

Sadie walking, birthdays, anniversaries, and more!

Ok, so this is really old, but I was thinking of sending these videos to my family via e-mail and then figured, why don't I add to to my blog instead. It has been quite a while since posting, and although this will be a short post, it will at least document Sadie's walking.

Sadie walking!!

Sadie in her sleep sack--we got such a kick out of this. This is the first time we've put her in a sleep sack since she was tiny tiny and I told Scott she'll hate it since she won't be able to walk around. Well, he put it on her anyways to try it out :)

The other bit of news that is going on right now is that we are planning to close on our house on Wed, the 26th! I'm really hoping it goes through this time, as we were delayed in closing due to repairs the lender was requiring. It has been a headache of a process, but we are almost done!!! Yay!!

Oh, and Blake turned 3 and Sadie turned 1 in my absence on blogger! We celebrated at a college friend's house:

Look at these girls!!

The "old" kids (poor Blake is outnumbered by girls...and since this picture, Missy just had another girl!!)
 The Mom's and their babies:

SueLynn and Elie, Me, Blake & Sadie, Maggie and Hailey, and Missy and Adie & Olivya
 The Dad's and their babies:

Aaron & Elie, Scott Sadie & Blake, Scott and Hailey, and Michael, Adie & Olivya
And, my monthly birthday pictures:

Sadie Jane is 1!!!

My beautiful girly who just couldn't sit still for very long...

So, they started jumping on the couch and having so much fun :)

"I three now" is how Blake puts it :)

Jumping with her brother and just loving it.

These kids.

Ah, a great one, just can't see her age...

I asked Blake to help me make her laugh and he's pretending to bite her/rub his head in her tummy--effective :)
Oh, and Scott and I just had an anniversary too! 8 years!! He has kept up with giving me gifts according to the traditional anniversary material for each year of marriage and this year was brass. I got an "owl lovers sculpture." :) I just love that he does this and I intentionally avoid looking at the list of gifts by year so that I am surprised.

We decided to check out what Iowa has to offer for our trip, for which my sister-in-law Priscilla graciously offered to watch our kids for. We went to Maquoketa, IA where they have some caves in their state park. I just love getting away with my husband :)

Ready for our hikes

Cave entrance below--we didn't bring spelunking clothes b/c we hadn't packed any clothes we were willing to get too dirty. So, we didn't do as much crawling as we might otherwise.

Brr, was a little chilly down here compared to the warmth above ground.

This was the only cave with a sidewalk

I got this shirt at a garage sale since I needed more clothes than I packed (our stuff is still in storage). I thought it was just plain tie-dye until these pictures when I noticed I was sporting a peace sign. True story. :) I used to look in the mirror more...

Hmmm, did I say this was going to be a quick post...?? whoops :) Halloween post to follow, even though that should technically be with the birthday post since Blake turned 3 on Halloween, but I'm thinking there are too many pictures here already.

Quick video of Sadie learning to walk

At the request of my mother, here are a couple pictures of Sadie learning to walk. I don't
really practice walking with my kids until a little later since I think crawling is good for them.
So, recently, I started letting Sadie attempt walking while I held onto her little fingers. She
loved it. Here is one of her first tries, and she was very excited :)

Sadie just starting to practice walking

Now, she just loves to practice, so here's a little more on her development.

More practicing

Oh, also she requested the lip thing that Sadie does, but I haven't captured that on video yet, but here is a picture of it. I love it when she does this! It is her learning to use her mouth to talk :)

Also, can't forget about big brother!

Priscilla brought me a couple magazine that she was through with, so Blake decided to browse through them, and I thought it was pretty cute, so here he is :)

Oh, and lastly, our Sadie is 11 months old!!! This photo session was challenging. She kept trying to tear off the sticker and crawl away!

She kept trying to get away, so I had to shove her back. She would laugh, so I would snap a picture right afterwards. I have a lot of these :)

Blake joining (wearing his favorite pants that I can't bring myself to put in storage even though they are too short). He was trying to help restrain Sadie, haha

Getting settled

Well, here we are in Cedar Falls, IA. We are currently living in a 3 bedroom apartment with most of our stuff in storage. We moved here in two cars and everything we could cram into those cars--I was amazed at how much Scott got in there. The movers wouldn't take chemicals and such, so garage chemicals and some household ones we took with us as well, and that took up some precious space in the car, but is seemed such a waste to throw it out. We had originally planned to sublet a couple's apartment, but when we went to see it, she had changed her mind. She had let me know that morning, but it was after we left and I don't have a smart phone, so didn't get the message. Unfortunately, I hadn't arranged to look at any other apartments, so I had to rent one without seeing it. Other than needing a couple minor repairs, some surface mold on the cabinets, and being quite dirty, this place seems just fine :)

I told Scott a couple times that I just couldn't live here, so we didn't have internet right away b/c Scott wouldn't set it up unless I was ok staying here. After we scrubbed a bunch and had maintenance come out, it started to feel better. We also had no furniture except for Blake's bed, a queen air mattress for us, and a pack n play for Sadie. That didn't help matters, I'm sure. So, we hit up the garage sales for the weekend and ended up having a decently furnished apartment (plus, Scott's Dad brought up some twin beds and a dresser that we had purchased from my brother before he moved his family to Russia). Here are a few pictures of our new abode:

Living Room
Funny story about the foot stool---I had purchased two green curtains at a garage sale, only to get home and find out they were two identical shower curtains (the person selling them to me obviously didn't know that--it was a 2 family sale). Well, since we got a free footstool with the futon and it was in rough shape, I sewed the green fabric shower curtain on it, haha! I felt so pinterest-y. :)

Oh, I forgot about Scott's ball--does that count as furniture?? He uses it as such...:)

Dining room (adjacent to living room).
Our apartment is a split level, so the main living space is downstairs (as you can see in the picture below, the windows are at ground level. We are to supply our own wall coverings, they currently have a handful of blinds already hung, only a handful of which are actually functional :) I don't think we are going to go through the work of hanging anything unless we plan to stay for a while. We are currently on a month to month lease, which is what made this place appealing :)

Kitchen, which is the worst part of the house. The cabinets are in rough shape--this is where we had some mold--in the bottom corner cabinets. It was a few college guys that lived here before us. Only about half of the cabinets actually click shut, you have to fight with half of the drawers, and never in my life have I had to change my water 3 times to wash down cabinets. I think I was scrubbing so hard I was removing finish...not sure :) The water was pretty dark though

And bonus!! We have a washer and dryer in our apartment and I don't even care that it is in the kitchen :)

Sadie showing off the stairs.

This is Blake's room.
We originally took the bigger room, but we got in our car in Madison and it felt like summer, 3 hours later, in Iowa, it felt like fall. A cold front had some in while we were driving and it was a shocker getting out of the car. Anyways, we were all cold that night, and I realized we had the warmest bedroom, so moved Blake here since he seemed to have the coldest room and needed the larger room for his trains :) The trains have been banned to his room b/c I couldn't handle the mess anymore. There are just too many pieces and they always take up a whole room.

Sadie's room. We have yet to put up the bunks (we bought a bunk bed and four twin mattresses from my brother).

The closet seemed warmer than the outside walls, so that is where I put her bed.
Oh, and our room is a mess, so no picture :) We have to twin mattresses plopped on the floor right next to each other and as of this weekend, have a desk for our computer. :)

We are right across the street from the Junior High School, so our front yard is a large parking lot, but just to the right is some green space and if you look closely, you can see a sign in the distance with is the entrance to the park. We are also walking distance to the bike trails and close to everything.

Sadie sucking on a pacifier, which basically never happens and showing off her loot from the laundry basket of junk :)

She was looking out the window, and I asked her to look at me so I could take a picture--she whips her head around and this is what she looked like. Sadddiiiiee!! What is in your mouth now?!? A few days ago, I pulled out a completely rusted out bolt of some sort...no idea where she got that!

Blake and I were watching the school buses as they lined up to pick up kids. Another bonus for a 2 year old boy for living next to a school :)
So, all in all, it is starting to feel like our little home and turned out to be a good option for us. I really like that we have three bedrooms, are close to a park and other things, and that we have an extremely flexible lease. It totally takes the pressure off! We are interested in two houses right now, but I think we've eliminated one due to size of the kitchen (and more specifically the cabinets). The cabinets are tiny and there are so few, plus it is priced so that is should have a decent kitchen without having to redo it.
